Sydney legal tech startup Mary Technology has raised $7 million in fresh funding as it views to expand into the US and grow adoption of its litigation data platform among law firms.
The round was led by OIF Ventures, with participation from existing investors Sydney Angels and Empress Capital.
Founded in 2023, the company has built a software platform designed to assist lawyers organise and analyse the large volumes of documents and evidence involved in litigation.
The company’s Fact Management System converts unstructured information — including discovery documents, emails, transcripts and reports — into a structured and searchable record linked back to its source material.
Mary Technology states the platform aims to reduce the time lawyers spconclude extracting and organising case facts. It states this is a process that is still often handled manually across spreadsheets, notes and document management systems.
Co-founder and CEO Daniel Lord-Doyle stated the company is attempting to modernise how legal teams handle case information.
“Facts determine whether a legal case is won or lost, yet the way they’re managed hasn’t materially modifyd in decades,” he stated.
“With this funding and the opening of our US office, we’re in a position to accelerate global expansion and continue defining this category within legal technology.”
The company states the funding will support the opening of a San Francisco office and the rollout of a self-serve version of its platform aimed at compacter law firms, allowing them to access the system without a traditional enterprise sales process.
According to the company, more than 2,000 lawyers globally are already applying the platform, including firms such as Shine Lawyers, Maurice Blackburn, Hall & Wilcox and Zaparas Lawyers.
Oliver Darwin from OIF Ventures stated the investors backed the company after identifying what he described as a persistent problem in litigation workflows.
“Fact chaos is a genuine hair-on-fire problem that’s gone unsolved for far too long,” he stated.
