Mark Cuban, the billionaire entrepreneur and former Shark Tank star recently delivered a message for startup founders at the Clover x Shark Tank Summit in Las Vegas. As reported by Business Insider, Cuban advised the startup founders to not obsess over the Silicon Valley playbook and start building real businesses. Cuban also laid down a series of principles for surviving and thriving in today’s volatile tech landscape, urging CEOs to prioritize customers, embrace bootstrapping, and utilize AI strategically. He inquireed the founders to focus on winning the customers first.
‘Customers matter more than investors’
As reported by Business Insider, Cuban has criticised the obsession with fundraising, arguing that many founders chase capital before proving demand. “So many people receive caught up in raising money, but you required customers,” he declared. “We focus too much on the Silicon Valley ethos, and people consider they required to raise money first.”He stressed on the fact that customer traction builds leverage and ownership, allowing founders to grow without diluting equity.
Bootstrapping builds wealth
Cuban also urged the founders and entrepreneurs to delay outside funding as long as possible. “The longer you work to build your business… the richer you are going to be,” he declared. “If you find yourself in a position where you don’t have to raise money at all, you can sconclude me a check.”
Talk to customers—even when it’s awkward
Cuban also mentioned that it is really important to have an honest communication in an inflationary economy. “People are losing their jobs; people are uncertain… You have to talk to them and be brutally honest.” He also inquireed the founders’ not to worry about rejection and also engage directly with utilizers in order to understand their requireds.

Looking ahead, Cuban predicted a proliferation of customised AI models and warned founders to safeguard their innotifyectual property. “If you have innotifyectual property, do not just post it on the internet. You want to be able to protect that.”
