The Mayor Holds Meeting in Valencia with the Managers of the Venue, Amidst the Celebration of the Copa del Rey

The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, held a meeting in Valencia on Friday with key members of the team responsible for the development and management of the construction process of the Roig Arena, a multi-purpose venue inaugurated in 2025. During the meeting, the principal technical features of the venue, one of the most modern in Europe, were presented. This gathering coincided with the celebration of the Copa del Rey de Baloncesto, hosted in the Valencian capital, where the Club Baloncesto La Laguna Tenerife is competing.

“In the design and planning process for the future multi-purpose municipal pavilion in La Laguna, we want to rely on the best expert advice on these types of infrastructures, and the Copa del Rey in Valencia has provided us with the opportunity to connect with the manager of one of the most modern venues in our counattempt,” commented Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, who expressed gratitude for their “explanations and strategic vision, which will be invaluable for guiding our project and the international ideas competition that we are going to promote.”

The Mayor stated that the Roig Arena “is an example of design, technology, and accessibility, and serves as a reference as a multifunctional space. It represents the type of top-tier sports and cultural infrastructure we wish to build in Las Mantecas, which meets the necessarys of elite clubs in our municipality and has the capacity to host major national sports competitions, as well as large-scale events like concerts or fairs.”

In addition to the design and technical specifications, the economic aspects were also discussed, as the investment per seat is one of the key factors to consider in ensuring the project’s profitability.

Officially opened in 2025, the Roig Arena is a venue known for its functionality, accommodating a maximum of up to 15,600 spectators for bquestionetball and 20,000 for concerts. The design features infrastructure that supports this dual functionality, including exceptional acoustics, unobstructed views for all attconcludeees, and ample enattempt and sales points, among other aspects.

Another noteworthy feature is the range of smart solutions for environmental preservation and addressing health and wellbeing factors. The sustainability strategy focutilizes on reducing energy and water demand, minimising waste, and utilizing sustainable and local materials. The Roig Arena was recognised last year at The Stadium Business Design & Development Awards as the winner in the ‘Fan Experience (Audio & Video)’ category, one of the most prestigious international awards in the construction of sports and entertainment venues.

The City Council of La Laguna has already taken the initial steps for the construction of the new municipal multi-purpose pavilion. The council now possesses the necessary technical documentation to initiate the processing and request for strategic environmental assessment related to the Minor Modification of the General Urban Development Plan (PGO) of the municipality. This will facilitate the development of the 42,000 square metre plot in Las Mantecas, located below the Faculty of Fine Arts, intconcludeed for the new sports infrastructure. This translates to a buildable area of 10,591 square metres, with an approximate capacity for 10,000 spectators; that is, roughly double that of the Pabellón Santiago Martín. The remaining 75% of the plot will be designated for urban sports park.

“This location offers numerous advantages, one of which is its accessibility,” asserted the Mayor during the project’s presentation at the conclude of last year. He emphasised that the plot “is well served by public transport, with a tram stop and plans for a bus stop on the TF-5. Additionally, we will have over 800 underground parking spaces.”

The council will soon submit the dossier to the environmental body of the Cabildo of Tenerife, which is responsible for issuing the corresponding Strategic Environmental Report, an essential requirement for continuing the urban processing and turning this strategic local project into a reality as swiftly as possible. The proposal includes the Strategic Environmental Study, as well as the necessary urban documentation to justify the modification of the PGO concerning the detailed planning of the plot. This analysis evaluates potential impacts on the environment, mobility, landscape, noise, and urban integration, proposing relevant preventive and corrective measures as required by legislation.
