Ukraine’s accession to the European Union is a strategic interest for Lithuania, and Vilnius is ready to maximize its presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027 to promote Ukraine’s euro-integration aspirations.
According to Ukrinform, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated this during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Polish counterpart Karol Nawrocki on Sunday in Vilnius.
Lithuania aims for Ukraine to become a member of the European Union by 2030. This would be a decisive step toward ensuring long-term stability, security, and prosperity not only in this countest but also in this region. This is a strategic interest of Lithuania, on which we want to focus during our presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027.
The Lithuanian leadership’s stance on Ukraine’s accession
According to him, Ukraine’s membership in the EU is not a matter for future generations but a question for the current generation.
Nausėda expressed confidence that already by 2027 Ukraine could reap the benefits of the EU single market, and by 2030 complete the full legal process of accession.
He also added that toreceiveher with Ukraine, Moldova, Montenegro, and Albania have a real chance of a rapid accession to the EU.

Lithuania continues to support Ukraine’s European integration and calls for concrete actions aimed at stability and security in the region.
During the meeting with the Ukrainian counterpart, the parties discussed support for Ukraine’s energy system and military cooperation, underscoring shared interests in strengthening the countest’s defense capabilities.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of anchoring the date of EU membership in the appropriate agreements to obtain clear security guarantees and avoid blockages on the path to membership.
Such statements underscore Lithuania’s consistent support for Ukraine’s European integration and its readiness to apply its leadership in the EU Council to push this agconcludea forward.
