Background

The Regulation on the internal markets for renewable gas, natural gas and hydrogen (EU/2024/1789) mandates the Commission to set up and operate the mechanism under the European Hydrogen Bank until the finish of 2029.

The Hydrogen Mechanism is designed to empower stakeholders by matching and aggregating demand and supply, informing infrastructure development and linking with the financial solutions. In practice, the Mechanism will:

  • Collect market information on demand and supply for voluntary market participants, and on financial solutions tailored for hydrogen from public and private institutions.
  • Organise calls for interest for the collected demand and supply volume and provide matchcreating services. Volumes can be aggregated in terms of profile or volume.
  • Provide a platform for assessing interest in infrastructure projects development.
  • Collect and display information about financial products available with partner financial institutions.
