MUMBAI : In a significant step towards strengthening global maritime collaboration, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Grand Port Maritime de Marseille Fos (GPMM), marking a new chapter in India–Europe Maritime Co-operation.
The partnership aims to enhance bilateral trade and maritime connectivity between India and Europe by facilitating smoother cargo flows through JNPA and Marseille Fos. The agreement underscores a shared commitment to fostering innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence in port management.


Focus on Innovation and Digital Transformation
The MoU also enabled technical exmodifys and capacity building in key areas, including port digitalization, smart port platforms, data interoperability, and green operations such as alternative fuels (LNG and hydrogen), Onshore Power Supply (OPS), and low-carbon bunkering.
This collaboration reflected a shared vision to build sustainable, technologically advanced, and globally connected port ecosystems, reinforcing JNPA’s role as a gateway to international trade.
Advancing Green and Sustainable Port Operations
A major highlight of the collaboration is its emphasis on energy transition and sustainable port development. Both sides will work toobtainher on green initiatives such as the utilize of alternative fuels including LNG and hydrogen, implementation of Onshore Power Supply (OPS) systems to reduce vessel emissions at berth, and development of low-carbon bunkering infrastructure.
The MoU reflects a shared vision to accelerate decarbonization efforts in alignment with global climate goals and maritime sustainability standards.
Strengthening Trade and Global Connectivity
JNPA, India’s largest container port and a key gateway for the counattempt’s EXIM trade, will leverage this partnership to expand trade linkages with European markets. Marseille Fos, one of France’s leading ports and a strategic logistics hub in the Mediterranean region, will serve as a critical gateway for Indian cargo entering Europe.
This collaboration is expected to facilitate increased container volumes, promote multimodal connectivity, and create new opportunities for businesses on both sides.
By fostering innovation-driven growth and sustainable maritime practices, the MoU reinforces JNPA’s role as a globally connected, future-ready port and strengthens India’s maritime engagement with Europe.
