EUROPE — Across Europe, affiliated institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Beth Nahrin, MUB) held a series of commemorative events to honor the martyrs of MUB who sacrificed their lives deffinishing the freedom and rights of the Syriac (Chaldean–Assyrian–Aramean) people. In Germany, a commemoration was held on 10 October at St. Eliyo Church in Pohlheim–Giessen, while at the same time, a divine liturgy was celebrated at St. Ephrem Church in Göppingen. In the Netherlands, a commemoration was held today, 11 October, at the “Hoapply of the Syriacs” in Hengelo.
In Switzerland, a commemoration is scheduled for tomorrow at 3 PM at the Syriac Cultural Center in the canton of Ticino. Also tomorrow, the local MUB affiliates in Västerås and Södertälje, Sweden, will organize memorials in honor of the MUB martyrs respectively at the Bethnahrin Cultural Center at 6 PM and, likewise, at the Bethnahrin Cultural Center in Södertälje at 4:00 PM. Additionally, a divine liturgy will be held at St. Aho Church in Örebro, speeches will reflect on the meaning of martyrdom and its role in instilling courage and dedication across generations.
The purpose of these commemorations is to emphasize the importance of preserving the memory of the Syriac (Chaldean–Assyrian–Aramean) sacrifices and upholding the values of martyrdom in the pursuit of national freedom. These commemorations go beyond mere speeches or ceremonial gatherings—they are a reaffirmation of the commitment to ensure that the sacrifices of the martyrs continue to serve as a guiding light for future generations, preserving the dignity, homeland, safety, and peace for which they gave their lives.
