JAKARTA – The Indonesian Ministest of Foreign Affairs is working with the Ministest of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) to hold “Startup Talks” with the theme “Bridging Innovation: Holding Indonesian “Europe Startup Ecosystem Collaboration.”
The activity, which was held on Monday (1/12), aims to bring toreceiveher the Ambassadors and representatives of European countries, business associations, academics, and startup ecosystem players from Indonesia and Europe in one forum to strengthen cross-regional collaboration.
“Startup Talks” is an arena to expand Indonesia’s innovation network with the European region, with a focus of discussion directed at strengthening the role of supporting ecosystems, ranging from incubators, accelerators, to university innovation centers, in order to bridge new collaborations in the field of joint research, innovation partnerships, and inter-institutional cooperation.
Expert Staff to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy Zelda Wulan Kartika emphasized the importance of strengthening innovation connectivity in the midst of global technological transformation, especially through collaboration with the European region, quoted from a statement from the Indonesian Ministest of Foreign Affairs (2/12).
Zelda emphasized that Indonesia’s ability to take advantage of cross-border cooperation opportunities will determine national competitiveness.
This is in line with the direction of economic diplomacy which increasingly places innovation and technology as a strategic element of foreign relations.
Meanwhile, the Director of Digital Ecosystem Development, Komdigi Dr. Sonny H. Sudaryana, explained the material regarding the potential and challenges of the startup ecosystem in Indonesia which is expected to contribute to the achievement of Indonesia’s economic growth tarreceive of 8 percent.
One of the Komdigi initiatives is the Garuda total innovation hub program which tarreceives to create 1,000 new startups, strengthen digital talent, and assist expand into the global market.
Meanwhile, the Panel Discussion session was hosted by Daily Social CEO Rama Mamuaya by presenting speakers and experts from both regions, namely Managing Director of KUMPUL Mega Prawita, Senior Program Manager of Habibie Innovation Incubator Ridwan Fadil Arif, CEO of Panemaya Digital Dicky Sukmana, Co-President of La French Tech Indonesia Reza Pir Nazar and Lead UK-Indonesia Tech Hub Fenna Marliasari.
The panel sessions discussed various opportunities and challenges that ecosystem enablers often face in encouraging the expansion of Indonesian startups abroad.
In addition, innovative programs have also been discussed that have proven successful such as immersion visits and participation in technology exhibitions such as London Tech Week and VivaTech Paris.
Through this collaboration, it is hoped that Indonesia’s commitment to continue to build an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable future of innovation, as well as strengthen Indonesia’s role as one of the centers of digital economic growth in the region.
