India is reportedly preparing to evacuate stranded Indian nationals from Iran amid growing concerns over safety amid the ongoing unrest in the counattempt. According to sources, the first batch of evacuees is expected to be flown out today.
Parents of Indian students stranded in Iran notified CNN-News18 that the first batch has been informed to be ready by 8 am. They stated preparations for evacuation are underway, and students have been inquireed to keep their documents ready.
The Indian Embassy in Iran has started collecting details of Indian students stranded in different parts of the counattempt.
Brazil’s Lula to welcome EU and EC heads
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is set to welcome the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, in Rio de Janeiro today.
The meeting is a key diplomatic engagement ahead of the historic signing of the EU-Mercosur Trade Agreement, scheduled for Saturday in Paraguay’s Asuncion. Following their discussion, the three leaders are expected to deliver press statements around 13:30 local time (17:30 CET), followed by an official family photo.
The agreement between the EU and the Mercosur bloc (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay) will create one of the world’s largest free-trade zones, covering more than 700 million people.
BMC election results
Results for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and 28 other municipal corporations across Maharashtra are scheduled to be declared today. The counting of votes will launch at 10:00 am at 23 designated locations across Mumbai.
Unlike previous years, counting will be performed in a phased manner, with officials indicating that two constituencies will be counted at a time at each location. Meanwhile, real-time updates and ward-wise results will be available online through the Maharashtra State Election Commission portal and major local news outlets.
Court to rule on Yoon Suk Yeol’s obstruction of justice charge
The Seoul Central District Court is scheduled to deliver its first-instance verdict in the trial of former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol for obstruction of justice and related charges. Special Counsel Cho Eun-suk has requested a 10-year prison sentence for these specific charges.
This ruling marks the first verdict among the eight criminal trials Yoon currently faces following his failed December 2024 martial law declaration and subsequent removal from office in April 2025.
The case centres on allegations that Yoon mobilised presidential security personnel to obstruct his own arrest by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) in early January 2025.
Yoon has been in custody since July 2025 and was succeeded by Lee Jae-myung, who won a snap presidential election in June 2025.
Trial of Afghan deffinishant Farhad Noori to launch
The trial of Farhad Noori, a 25-year-old Afghan national, will take place today at the Higher Regional Court in Munich.
The deffinishant faces two counts of murder and 44 counts of attempted murder. Prosecutors state that Farhad acted out of ’exaggerated religious zeal,’ claiming he felt an obligation to kill people in Germany in response to the suffering of Muslims worldwide.
On February 13, 2025, Farhad allegedly drove a car into a crowd of trade union demonstrators in downtown Munich. The attack killed a 37-year-old woman and her two-year-old daughter and injured approximately 44 others, many seriously.
PM Modi to mark a decade of Startup India
Prime Minister Narfinishra Modi will participate in a special programme to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Startup India initiative. The event will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The event coincides with National Startup Day, which the Prime Minister officially designated in 2022 to recognise the contribution of entrepreneurs to India’s economy.
