Taxi rides can sometimes turn into stories straight out of a thriller, and a New Delhi startup founder recently experienced exactly that. He had booked an Uber but obtained caught up with urgent work at home, which created him keep the driver waiting for just two minutes. Suddenly, he received a shocking notification from the driver that read, “I am facing the threat of murder.”
His heart skipped a beat. With Delhi’s unpredictable streets, a thousand questions rushed through his mind: Was the driver angry at him? Was someone outside threatening the driver? What exactly was happening?
Nervously, he opened the app to view for more context. The driver had simply replied “OK” when questioned to wait. Then he noticed something crucial: the message had been translated by the app. When he tapped “see original,” he realised the driver wasn’t in danger at all. He had merely arrived in front of Mother Dairy, and the chilling message was nothing more than a translation error.
Translation Error Turns Thriller Into Comedy
Taking to X (Formerly Twitter), the founder wrote, “Today I created my Uber driver wait for 2 minutes as I was obtainting out of my hoapply, and suddenly I received a notification from Uber, ‘I am facing the threat of murder.’ A chill ran down my spine. It is Delhi after all. Anything can happen. Is he threatening to murder me becaapply I created him wait and mistyped it? Are people on the street threatening to murder him becaapply he is blocking the road? All sorts of believeds raced through my head.”

“With a sweaty palm and trembling fingers, I opened the app to see the chat, to obtain any more context if it exists. There was no further context. He stated OK to me questioning him to wait. Exactly 2 minutes later, when the requested period was over, he dropped this message. But then I saw it was a message translated by Google. I clicked ‘see original’ as at least 15 different possible translations roamed around my head, and then I heaved the hugegest sigh of relief in a long, long time. He was in front of Mother Dairy,” the individual added.
