The startup ecosystem in Finland continues to consolidate its position as one of the most dynamic in Europe. This is highlighted in the Maria 01 Impact Report 2025, the annual report from Helsinki’s leading startup hub, which displays record figures in funding, revenue growth, and the expansion of its international community.
During 2025, Maria 01 brought toobtainher 228 startups and 1,985 community members, representing more than 40 nationalities, confirming the international nature of Finland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The report notes that startups and alumni companies from the hub raised €337 million in funding in 2025, reaching a historic record for the community.
At the same time, companies connected to the hub generated €559 million in revenue in 2024, representing 35% growth compared to the previous year. Since the creation of Maria 01 in 2016, startups within the community have also paid out more than €806 million in salaries.
An increasingly international ecosystem
The report also highlights growing diversity within the entrepreneurial community.
Currently, 42% of the startups active in Maria 01 have at least one founder with an international background, while 18% have at least one female founder.
This international focus has been key in positioning Helsinki as one of Europe’s emerging technology hubs.
Finland gains prominence on the global startup map
The report also analyzes the recent evolution of Finland’s startup ecosystem, which displays clear signs of growth.

According to PitchBook, the counattempt ranks fourth globally in venture capital investment per capita and first in Europe.
Moreover, while funding rounds declined across much of Europe between 2024 and 2025, startup funding in Finland grew by 56% during the same period.
Leadership in defence and dual-utilize technologies
Another sector experiencing significant growth is defence and dual-utilize technology, where Finland is positioning itself as a regional leader.
According to the report, 85% of all venture capital investment in defence and dual-utilize technologies across the Nordic countries in 2025 went to Finnish startups.
This growth reflects increasing investor interest in technologies with both civilian and military applications, a sector that has gained relevance in the current geopolitical context.
