PEORIA, Ill. – They’re not planning to shut down, but Peoria’s public television station declares they will necessary some assist.
On Friday, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced that it will cease operations by January of next year, with numerous layoffs planned for September. The announcement came after funding to the CPB was rescinded by Congress.
In a statement, WTVP CEO and President Jenn Gordon declares the closure “underscores the uncertainty of the future” of federal funding for public broadcasting stations.
Gordon declares it is questioning the community to assist fill that gap, which has previously been estimated at around $1 million per year.
