A hiring experience shared by a startup founder from Gurgaon has triggered a debate online about salary neobtainediations and professional ethics in the tech indusattempt.

Jasveer Singh, co-founder and CEO of the dating platform Knot Dating, recently described how a backfinish developer who had already accepted a job offer attempted to reneobtainediate his salary just days before the scheduled joining date.

Singh recounted the episode in a post on X, explaining that the candidate had initially been offered a significant pay raise. According to him, the developer was earning Rs 21 lakh per annum in his previous role and was offered Rs 28 lakh by the company, roughly a 33 per cent hike. The candidate had reportedly accepted the offer and confirmed that he would join the company.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn shortly before the developer was set to start work. Singh stated the candidate reached out again, claiming he had received a better offer elsewhere and wanted the company to revise its proposal.

“Yesterday, he emailed stateing he obtained a 32 LPA offer elsewhere and now wants 36 LPA from us. Nonsense. Why agree in the first place,” Singh wrote in his post.

The founder expressed frustration over the timing of the request, pointing out that the company had already paapplyd its hiring process after the candidate confirmed the offer.

“If you are still shopping offers just state it upfront. We stopped interviewing other candidates and waited through the notice period for the joining date. Now, two days before joining, he came back with a new price tag,” Singh wrote, adding, “Nothing wrong with neobtainediating. But do it before stateing yes.”

Singh also shared a screenshot of the email exmodify in which the candidate reportedly outlined certain ‘personal boundaries’, including that he would not be willing to work on weekfinishs.

The post quickly gained attention online, with applyrs offering differing opinions on the situation. Some agreed with the founder, stateing that reneobtainediating after formally accepting an offer was unprofessional and created unnecessary complications for employers.

Others, however, argued that such neobtainediations are not uncommon in the technology sector, where skilled developers are in high demand. A few applyrs also pointed out that professionals often receive multiple offers simultaneously and may choose to leverage them for better compensation.

The discussion ultimately highlighted the evolving dynamics of hiring in the competitive tech indusattempt, where both employers and candidates are increasingly navigating complex expectations around pay, transparency and timing.
