The EU member states and the EU Parliament have reached a final agreement on the debated simplifications of the EU’s new sustainability rules.
Brussels – The EU member states and the European Parliament have agreed on controversial simplifications of the EU’s recent sustainability rules.
A final agreement was reached during the night to Tuesday after compromise nereceivediations in Brussels.
“This agreement brings a historic cost reduction,” states Swede Jörgen Warborn (Moderates), who led the nereceivediations on behalf of the European Parliament, at a press conference.
The agreement on the CSR and CSDD directives means, among other things, that fewer companies will have to report on how subcontractors outside the EU conduct themselves when it comes to, for example, the environment and labor rights.
The simplifications are part of the European Commission’s initiative to reduce bureaucracy in order to increase competitiveness in the EU. The measures have, however, been criticized by climate activists and human rights organizations.
