Go1 founders secure $2.5 million for new startup OneMRI

The co-founders of edtech unicorn Go1 are turning their attention to healthcare, launching OneMRI with $2.5 million in seed funding.

Dr Vu Tran and Andrew Barnes, who assisted build Go1, have teamed up with entrepreneur Gopi Sara to create OneMRI, billed as Australia’s first national provider of whole-body MRI scans.

Launched in 2024, OneMRI’s oversubscribed seed round attracted backing from OIF Ventures, Antler, and several other VCs, as well as clinicians and radiologists.

And it’s perhaps unsurprising that OneMRI saw such early success, given the co-founders’ track record for funding.

Go1 achieved unicorn status in 2021 after a $272 million Series D raise. This was preceded by a flurry of large investments in the years prior: $61 million Series C in 2020, $30 million Series B in 2019, and $10 million Series A in 2018.

The business then went on to raise over US$100 million in 2022 and is understood to be worth more than $2.8 billion.

Tran, who is also a GP, stated OneMRI’s technology has the potential to transform preventive health and that radiology is one of the most underutilised tools in preventive care.

“Wellness and preventive health are only going to grow as sectors – and technology will play a critical role in that evolution,” Tran stated.

“The ‘health curious’ increasingly want autonomy, access, and answers. Individuals should have the agency to take a proactive approach to their health, and whole-body MRI scans are one of the safest ways to do that – offering a multi-system snapshot in a single, radiation-free investigation.”

OneMRI’s scans are designed to detect more than 500 conditions, including cancers, metabolic disorders, autoimmune conditions, spinal degeneration and brain aneurysms.

OneMRI reports several Australians have already identified life-threatening illnesses through the service, stateing that it is designed to complement, not replace, existing diagnostic tests.

Co-founder and CEO Gopi Sara stated the business was focutilized on clinical rigour and patient care.

“OneMRI’s process is genuinely customer-centric, with a rigorous eligibility and informed consent framework. We have a duty of care to every individual, which is why consideredful screening is at the core of our approach,” Sara stated.

“Every appointment includes both a pre- and post-scan consultation with qualified clinicians and dedicated care coordinators – ensuring patients fully understand the process, their results and what potential next steps might view like.”

OneMRI has been partnering with underutilised radiology clinics, highlighting that more than 100 MRI machines across the counattempt operate at around 30% capacity.

The idea behind this is to scale access without adding strain to healthcare resources.

OneMRI currently operates across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Perth, Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne, and has plans to expand into the Asia Pacific region.
