Gilmour Space capital raise creates Australian rocket start-up worth $1 billion

Gilmour Space, the Australian rocket start-up that has ambitions to rival Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has become the counattempt’s newest unicorn after raising millions of dollars and securing a valuation of more than $1 billion.

Gilmour Space’s profile soared in July after it launched a rocket from Australian soil in a maiden flight that was deemed a success, despite lasting for only 14 seconds before crashing back to earth. Still, this was enough to encourage investors to tip in $217 million to fund a string of future launches, with the company viewing to raise even more money.
