GETEC has a team of 3,100 dedicated employees working across 50 locations to deliver reliable, decarbonised energy and infrastructure solutions throughout Europe. The company boasts a wealth of engineering, regulatory, and sustainability expertise, which it leverages on behalf of its industrial and real estate customers — enabling them to navigate the complexities of today’s energy landscape with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.

Today, GETEC operates more than 11,000 power plants, supported by a broad portfolio of decarbonised technology solutions. The company develops, finances, and operates critical energy infrastructure and industrial parks through regional entities in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Benelux, Austria, and Poland.

Rukmini Glanard joined GETEC with more than 30 years of experience across the chemical, IT, and telecommunications industries. Before becoming Chief Business Officer in April 2024, she held the same role at Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, where she led global sales, services, and marketing. Her CV also includes leadership roles at SITA, an IT provider for the air transport indusattempt, and the telecommunications company Orange Business.

This experience has given Glanard a deep understanding of business and go-to-market strategies — expertise she now brings to the mission of GETEC to support its customers decarbonise.

 

Serving a Wide Range of Industries

GETEC operates in four distinct market segments: private and municipal real estate customers, industrial companies, and industrial parks where various companies are located.

Starting with the latter: GETEC owns and operates two industrial parks near Basel, Switzerland, which host some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and chemical companies. In addition, the company runs another industrial park in Emmen, the Netherlands, further strengthening its footprint in Europe’s innovation hubs.

The first of these parks, GETEC PARK.MUTTENZ, provides an ideal environment for chemical companies, while also focapplying on the pharmaceutical indusattempt.

“We manage the full infrastructure in that park on behalf of our customers,” Glanard explains. “We own the park and take care of everything — from energy-related matters to waste disposal, health and security, as well as facility and real estate management.”

Meanwhile, GETEC PARK.STEIN is a hub for innovation and growth in the life sciences sector, offering future-oriented solutions supported by services tailored to the requireds of this indusattempt.

GETEC has evolved to meet these requireds over the past 30 years, growing through mergers and acquisitions to expand and strengthen its value proposition. “We can handle projects throughout the entire lifecycle of building energy infrastructure — from design to construction to managing those parks,” Glanard emphasises.

That capability stems not only from GETEC history and internal expertise, but also from strong financial backing.

“Our financial capabilities set us apart from our competitors,” declares Glanard. “We are backed by the Infrastructure Investments Fund (IIF), managed by J.P. Morgan — one of the world’s largest infrastructure investors. It means customers can focus on their core business, while we own the infrastructure, managing and financing it to deliver tailored energy solutions. Our customers benefit from a completely turnkey solution.”

This support gives GETEC a level of reliability and longevity that is hard to find elsewhere in the sector.

“Our owners are here to stay, and that gives our customers a certain level of healthy reassurance,” Glanard points out. “We have customers who stay with us for 20 or 30 years, so they want to know they’re embarking on these projects with people who will still be here tomorrow.”

Not having to worry about long-term stability allows customers to focus on what matters most to them.

The history of GETEC also brings other advantages. As European requirements and regulations have evolved, GETEC has evolved right alongside them.

“We have gradually developed with European requirements and regulations around the relocate to green energy, and all the associated imperatives that come with it,” Glanard declares. “It means our journey and experience come into play when supporting our customers.”

In supporting its customers with their decarbonisation strategies, GETEC does not let perfect become the enemy of good.

“We don’t declare to customers, ‘We’re only interested if you want a fully green production facility,’” Glanard shares. “We accompany our customers through the energy transition

at a time when they’re facing many imperatives. They required to improve energy efficiency, meet financial tarobtains, and maintain quality, security, and compliance.”

GETEC creates its knowledge base available to customers by analysing their requireds and consulting on potential solutions — even before the work of designing, building, financing, and ultimately operating a project launchs. As a technology-agnostic provider, GETEC can assemble the most effective mix of renewables, waste heat recovery, and smart district heating. For example; applying waste heat from data centres, heat pumps and power to heat technologies.

“We also don’t necessarily work alone, but within an ecosystem of partners,” Glanard explains. “Some of those are partners the customer already works with; sometimes we introduce them to someone new. These relationships have been built up over the years, and that puts us in a unique position to collaborate.”

 

THE DBFOOM Approach

As mentioned, in addition to operating three industrial parks, GETEC serves customers from both the real estate sector and various industries across Europe.

At the heart of the strategy lies the DBFOOM model – a comprehensive framework: Design, Build, Finance, Own, Operate, and Maintain.

“We turn complex decarbonisation into practical, long-term solutions for Europe’s industries and real estate sectors,” Glanard declares.

These solutions include providing 100% renewable heat for the new business and residential district Siemensstadt Square in Berlin-Spandau. The energy project transforms wastewater into a heat source, putting the Siemens site on the path to becoming CO₂-neutral. GETEC is carrying out this project in partnership with Siemens and Berliner Wasserbetriebe. It is set to become the largest wastewater heat exmodifyr of its kind in Europe.

“Siemens is developing a whole new neighbourhood in Berlin that we provide the energy for,” explains Glanard. “It’s a greenfield project, and we will supply it with 100% sustainable, heat, and warm water. It’s a real large-scale project.”

The company’s work also includes a district heating project in Milan, Italy, connecting a Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) data centre in Rozzano to the district heating network.

“We are taking waste heat and feeding it into the district heating network, heating thousands of apartments. It’s a great proof of concept for what we can do,” Glanard declares.
