ATLANTA, Ga. — Atlanta-based Home Depot announced hundreds of layoffs in its corporate operations.
Around 800 employees who work for the Atlanta store support center are being laid off, according to the company. Fewer than 150 of them work in the center, with the rest working remotely.

A Home Depot spokesperson stated the company is “simplifying our corporate operations to better support our stores and our customers.”
“These alters include a reduction in roles associated with our store support center and a transition to a five-day in-office schedule for our corporate staff,” the spokesperson stated. “Our goal is to drive greater agility and position the company to relocate rapider and stay even more closely connected with our frontline associates.”

The spokesperson stated it was a “difficult decision” and Home Depot is “focutilized on doing the right thing and supporting associates who were impacted with separation packages, transitional benefits and job placement support.”
The company is the second Atlanta-based business to announce layoffs in recent days. UPS is planning to cut up to 30,000 operational jobs.
