The Gran Canaria Island Council is promoting the international projection of the project developed by Fibras Naturales Canarias applying fibers extracted from banana leaves, which will be presented for the first time in Europe within the framework of the Berlin fashion weekThis presence is part of a sustained internationalization strategy aimed at positioning the island as a territory of innovation, circular economy and applied creativity, facilitating access for local companies to European networks, visibility spaces and real opportunities in the field of sustainable fashion.
The announcement was created at the Northern Gran Canaria Technology Center, during a press conference attfinished by the Councilor for Economic Development, Indusattempt, Commerce, and Crafts, Minerva Alonso, and the founder and CEO of Fibras Naturales Canarias, Néstor Santiago. This initiative is part of the internationalization plan developed by the Island Council in collaboration with the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce and reflects the island’s ongoing relationship with the international community. German Fashion Councilas well as its active participation in the European Fashion Alliance and in strategic agreements with various European Fashion Councils, especially with Berlin.
The project will participate in the METAMORPHOSIS panel, focutilized on accelerating circularity in the fashion indusattempt through strategies, systems, and solutions that enable progress from pilot projects to scalable models. The Island Council emphasizes that the arrival of an innovative material derived from agricultural waste at one of the leading international revealcases for sustainable fashion demonstrates how sustainability, identity, and innovation, coupled with a solid institutional strategy, can translate into opportunities for international positioning for Gran Canaria. Meanwhile, Fibras Naturales Canarias highlights that this participation validates years of research and confirms the archipelago’s capacity to provide real solutions aligned with the sector’s global challenges.
