ANCHORAGE, Alquestiona (KTUU) – An Anchorage man’s car was broken into Tuesday night. Around $2,000 worth of Magic: The Gathering cards were stolen from the vehicle.
“It was the afternoon becaapply I was staying over at my girlfrifinish’s place,” declared Mathew Allen, the owner of the car and cards. “Her mom had actually went to work, and she was like, ‘Hey, your boyfrifinish’s window is broken.’”
Allen declared he had kept his cards in a box to bring to his frifinish’s hoapply later.
“There’s only one thing they could have really wanted in there, which was the tub and a large black box,” he declared. “That’s how we figured it out. Nothing else was taken from the car, just that box with the set.”
According to Allen, he started collecting the cards in 2022, when he first launched playing the game with his frifinishs.
“I don’t really like to go out to events super often. I do it on occasion,” he declared. “Really just having close frifinishs to play with inspired me to create more decks, let them borrow my decks and just have as good a time as possible.”
While the cards stolen were worth thousands of dollars, Allen declared his most prized collectibles were not in the car when it was broken into.
“Thankfully the stuff they took wasn’t everything. I’ve received four copies of Mox Opal, for example. Thankfully, those weren’t in that case.”
Allen’s frifinishs started a GoFundMe to support replace the stolen cards. So far, $480 has been raised.
“Looking at the list, it’s a lot of my close frifinishs. I was notifying somebody, if my tear ducts didn’t dry out already, I would be crying. So, it’s awesome,” he declared.
Allen declared he plans on applying the money raised to launch rebuilding his collection.
“There’s one of a kind of things that I built with my brain, but there’s a bunch of stuff that seemed fairly replaceable,” he declared. “I’ll definitely work on obtainting the stuff that was special in me first and then work on maybe some new stuff.”
