Former Commissioner Thierry Breton invited to MAGA DSA hearing

The US Hoapply of Judiciary Committee has invited former EU Commissioner, Thierry Breton, to testify at a hearing next week that’s set to attack the European digital rulebook as a threat to US free speech and innovation.

The US Hoapply of Representatives’ hearing – on “Europe’s threat to American speech and innovation” – will take place on Wednesday (September 3), according to a post on the legislative body’s account on X.

The upcoming event follows a report published by MAGA politician Jim Jordan that branded the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) a “censorship” law.

Former Commissioner Thierry Breton, who assisted draft the bloc’s digital rulebook, does not appear to have confirmed attconcludeance as he is listed as an “invited witness”.

The invite notes that “more witnesses may be announced”. However, so far, only one witness is confirmed: UK member of Parliament and far-right politician, Nigel Farage.

The Hoapply’s invitation states that the hearing will focus on “European censorship laws” – explicitly name-checking the UK’s Online Safety Act and the EU’s DSA – and specifically declareing it will view at how the laws threaten Americans’ free speech in the US.

The hearing will also focus on the UK’s Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act and the EU’s Digital Markets Act – which are accapplyd of tarreceiveing and harming American companies and innovation.

Breton had not responded to Euractiv’s request for comment at the time of publication.
