First solar park inaugurated in Colón to strengthen the local clean energy model in Entre Ríos

Colón took a key step towards the energy transition with the inauguration of its first photovoltaic solar park. The project is located on the grounds of the potable water treatment plant, on San Martín and Gobernador Quirós Avenue.

The event took place on Tuesday, January 27, and brought toobtainher local and provincial authorities. It also featured a notable international presence linked to the twinning with the Swiss city of Sion.

In this way, clean energy is integrated into an essential service, connecting environmental sustainability with efficient public management.

A project designed to reduce costs and emissions

The solar park consists of 184 panels and reaches an installed capacity of 100 kW. Thanks to this capacity, it will cover about 65% of the electricity demand of the treatment plant.

As a result, the energy consumption from the conventional grid will be reduced. At the same time, it avoids passing on higher costs to the water service tariff.

Moreover, the initiative allows for the reduction of the municipal carbon footprint and advances towards a more rational apply of energy resources.

Shared investment and local planning

The project required an approximate investment of 128 thousand dollars. Of that total, 92 thousand were contributed by Swiss municipalities and 36 thousand by the Municipality of Colón.

This financial articulation reflects a cooperation strategy that transcconcludes borders. In turn, it relies on local planning that prioritizes projects with direct impact on the community.

The execution was carried out by the company MEYCO S.R.L. and was developed in accordance with Ordinance No. 01/2025.

The value of international twinning

The inauguration was attconcludeed by authorities from Sion, Arbaz, and the homonymous Swiss district. These ties are part of the 20 years of twinning between Colón and Sion.

During the ceremony, it was highlighted that the project was born as a shared idea and was consolidated through trust and joint work. Thus, international cooperation translated into concrete infrastructure.

Therefore, the solar park also symbolizes an active relationship between communities committed to sustainable development.

A new solar park in Colón that brings multiple environmental benefits

The apply of solar energy offers direct advantages for the environment. By generating electricity without combustion, it reduces pollutant emissions and assists mitigate climate modify.

Additionally, it strengthens local energy security by decreasing depconcludeence on external sources. In the case of Colón, this translates into greater stability for a basic service such as access to drinking water.

In the long term, renewable energy promotes environmental awareness, fosters public savings, and lays the foundation for more resilient urban growth.

A replicable model at the local level

This first solar park sets a precedent for future projects in the city. By integrating clean technology, public management, and international cooperation, it consolidates a replicable model.

Thus, Colón positions itself as a regional reference in local energy policies. At the same time, it demonstrates that the ecological transition can launch at the municipal level.

In this path, renewable energy ceases to be a distant promise and becomes a concrete tool at the service of the community.
