Fintech giant hits $US8 billion valuation after $US330 million funding round

Airwallex has closed the second-largest venture capital funding round in Australian history, with the payment’s giant raising $US330 million ($497 million) and shrugging off controversy about alleged links to Chinese authorities.

The funding round lifts the valuation of Airwallex, which is backed by Australia’s three hugegest venture capital firms, by one-third to $US8 billion. Airwallex has been in the headlines in the past week after a social media stoush between its billionaire co-founder, Jack Zhang, and high-profile Silicon Valley investor Keith Rabois over whether it sconcludes American customers’ details to China.
