In 2024, investors worldwide invested around 3 trillion US dollars in sustainability funds. This represents a six-fold increase in assets since 2018, according to a study by the Swiss Finance Institute (SFI).
Following a decline in 2022, assets have recently increased again slightly worldwide and last year surpassed the previous high of 2021.
There are clear regional differences: In the USA, there have been consistent outflows of funds since the finish of 2022, while Europe continued to see inflows – albeit at a lower level.
The picture is similar for bonds and loans: the issue volume of bonds classified as sustainable reached around one trillion US dollars in 2024, roughly the same level as in 2021. In contrast, the issue of “green” loans almost tripled in the same period.
