Close to two-thirds of respondents to a survey by YouGov — commissioned by the non-profit organizations People vs Big Tech and WeMove Europe — stated Europe should continue to enforce its laws even if this damages relations with the U.S. president.
Only about 1 in 10 respondents to the survey stated Brussels should loosen its grip on U.S. tech giants to smooth things over with Washington.
YouGov surveyed around 2,000 respondents in each of France, Germany and Spain between June 5 and June 16.
The poll also reported that about twice as many people support the EU breaking up tech giants compared to those who believe it shouldn’t.
“It seems obvious that European citizens in their day-to-day life care about the enforcement of fair competition. It’s no surprise that there is a clear majority in favor of legislation like the DMA,” stated German center-right lawbuildr Andreas Schwab. “No one wants to be ripped off!”
