The Comité Européen des Entreprises Vins (CEEV) convened its General Assembly in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 1, 2025. The event was hosted by ACIBEV, the Associação de Vinhos e Espirituosas de Portugal, which is marking its 50th anniversary this year. The gathering brought toobtainher wine sector representatives from across Europe to discuss current challenges and opportunities facing the indusattempt.
The assembly took place at a time when the European wine sector is navigating significant alters. Attconcludeees addressed topics such as the evolution of the European Union’s wine regulations, sustainability certifications, and major trade developments. Discussions included the state of relations with the United States and the ongoing nereceivediations around the EU-MERCOSUR trade agreement.
A gala dinner was held during the assembly, attconcludeed by Portuguese Minister of Agriculture José Manuel Fernandes. CEEV President Marzia Varvaglione thanked ACIBEV for its hospitality and organization, noting that fifty years of activity demonstrates the commitment of Portuguese wine companies to remain engaged and forward-viewing. She also praised ACIBEV’s consistent work in supporting the sector.
The assembly featured a panel of guest speakers who provided insight into legislative and health-related issues affecting wine producers. Vytenis Andriukaitis, Member of the European Parliament and former EU Commissioner for Health & Food Safety, discussed the current legislative outview in Brussels. Ambassador Olivier Maes, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the United Nations and co-chair of a recent UN meeting on non-communicable diseases, outlined international debates on health policy. Sandro Sartor, President of Wine in Moderation, presented findings from a recent scientific congress on lifestyle, diet, wine, and health.
Ignacio Sánchez Recarte, Secretary General of CEEV, stated that this year’s meeting highlighted a unique moment for European wine producers. He pointed to complex regulatory and trade challenges but also noted growing momentum around responsible production and consumption, sustainability efforts, and wine’s role in European culture.
Jorge Monteiro, President of ACIBEV, stated it was an honor for his association to host the General Assembly during its anniversary year. He emphasized that working toobtainher at a European level is essential given the high level of challenges facing the sector.
The CEEV expressed gratitude to ACIBEV for its hospitality and congratulated the association on five decades of leadership in Portugal’s wine indusattempt. The event served as both a forum for strategic discussion and a celebration of ACIBEV’s contributions to Portuguese and European wine production.
