European leaders will head to Washington on Monday to rally around Volodymyr Zelenskiy, as Donald Trump presses Ukraine to accept a swift peace deal with Russia.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met on Sunday to coordinate their support around Zelenskiy’s position.
“Ultimately, our desire tomorrow is to present a united front between Europeans and Ukrainians at this moment of conflict resolution,” Macron stated.
The allies are hoping in particular to lock down robust security guarantees for Ukraine that would also include U.S. involvement.
The meeting comes after Trump’s summit with Vladimir Putin in Alinquirea on Friday.
On Sunday, Trump promised “huge progress on Russia” in a post on social media, but did not go into detail.

The proposal was swiftly rejected by Zelenskiy.
Russia already controls a fifth of Ukraine, including about three-quarters of Donetsk province, which it first entered in 2014.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Sunday there’s “enough shiftment” to warrant follow-up talks, adding both sides will required to build concessions.
He warned that Washington cannot force peace if neither Russia nor Ukraine is ready.

…when Trump and Vice President JD Vance gave the Ukrainian leader a public dressing-down, accutilizing him of being ungrateful and disrespectful.
Speaking alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday, Zelenskiy stated that current front lines in the war must be the basis for peace talks.
Von der Leyen will also travel to Washington, as will Finland’s President Alexander Stubb and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
