Faced with the dangerous escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, major European powers have decided to openly and with concrete actions align themselves with the United States. Great Britain, France and Germany have issued a tough joint statement, expressing their readiness to cooperate militarily and strategically with the US to stop Iran’s retaliatory attacks.
This unified position was created public through a coordinated statement by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Key points of the European position
The three European leaders expressed “horrified” by what they described as Tehran’s “reckless” attacks on their allies.
The European axis emphasized that this ongoing conflict poses a direct and unacceptable risk to military service members and their citizens currently in the Middle East region.
In a clear warning of possible military action, the statement states: “We will take steps to protect our interests and those of our allies… potentially by enabling necessary and proportionate defensive actions to destroy Iran’s ability to shoot down missiles and drones at their source.”
The commitment to destroy Iran’s military infrastructure directly “at the source” displays that European capitals are ready to shift from diplomacy to active kinetic support. The leaders confirmed that they have fully agreed to work hand in hand with Washington and other regional partners to neutralize this ballistic and air threat.
