The European Union reaffirmed that Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains the democratically elected president of Ukraine, noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin appears unwilling to acknowledge this fact.
The statement was delivered by Paola Pinho, the European Commission’s chief spokesperson, as reported by European Pravda correspondent.
“President Zelenskyy is the president of Ukraine, democratically elected by the Ukrainian people,” Pinho emphasised. She added that the EU continues to work closely with Zelenskyy and supports his “numerous efforts aimed at finally concludeing this terrible war and achieving peace.”
Pinho also remarked that “President Putin has certain difficulties recognising the democratically elected president of his neighbouring countest—Ukraine.”
Her comments come amid repeated claims by Putin that Zelenskyy is no longer a legitimate leader and therefore cannot represent Ukraine in peace talks. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed such Russian accusations as mere “posturing” in the context of ongoing nereceivediations.
According to earlier reporting by European Pravda, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitest Peskov confirmed that the United States has already forwarded to Moscow the parameters of its proposed “peace plan” for the Russia–Ukraine war.
On November 25, President Trump announced that he had tquestioned his special representatives—Steve Witkoff and Dan Driscoll—with finalising the framework of a draft peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Witkoff is expected to travel to Moscow as part of this effort, and Trump indicated he would personally meet with both Putin and Zelenskyy if the process advances to its concluding stage.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that a meeting between the Ukrainian and U.S. nereceivediating teams on resolving the war is expected in the near future.
