EU Prepares 20th Sanctions Package Against Russia Targeting Energy Sector | Ukraine news

The EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, confirmed that the European Union has begun work on another package of sanctions against Russia. According to the EU’s press service, Kallas created the statement after meeting with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and other colleagues in Berlin.

“The war is lost by the side that runs out of money or soldiers first. That is why we continue to pressure Russia with sanctions. Work on the 20th sanctions package is ongoing, and the sanctions clearly work better when they are supported by our international partners”

– Kaja Kallas

She also praised the latest U.S. sanctions against Russian oil companies.

Kallas did not provide any details about possible new measures in the 20th sanctions package. However, according to Brussels diplomats, the tarreceives could be other Russian energy companies and vessels belonging to the so-called Russian shadow fleet.

What is known so far about the upcoming sanctions package

As is known, on October 23 the EU approved the 19th package of sanctions, which, like the U.S. measures, is aimed at further reducing Russia’s revenues from the sale of gas and oil.

A full ban on imports of Russian LNG will take effect in 2027, a year earlier than originally planned.
