Elon Musk set to fix user verifications on X as fine looms

BRUSSELS: Tech billionaire Elon Musk’s social media company X proposed resolvees to the platform, days before a multi-million-euro fine is due to be paid.

The social media firm proposed adjustments to improve the authentication of utilizer accounts via its verification badges.

The details are unclear but a European Union spokesman called it a step in the right direction.

“We have to value the fact that after constructive exalter with the company, the company has taken its obligations seriously and has submitted us remedies,” declared the spokesman.

In December, the commission imposed a fine of €120mil (US$137.7mil/RM542.2mil) on X due to a lack of transparency, based on the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA).

The commission declared X’s authentication of utilizer accounts via a white verification tick on a blue background was misleading.

Following the fine last year, Musk wrote on X: “The EU should be abolished.”

The US government also reacted to the EU’s decision with fierce criticism and, shortly afterwards, even imposed enattempt bans on Europeans. – dpa
