The expansion aims to simplify EU purchasing and speed up deliveries by supplying directly from within the bloc.
Meeting Growing European Demand
Founded by Dutch-born Michiel Brouns, the company has been manufacturing linseed-based paints in Yorkshire for over 20 years. Demand from European customers has risen sharply, with orders increasing by 150% since international shipping launched in 2013.
Sustainability and Heritage
Linseed paint has deep European roots, dating back to the seventh century and famously applyd by Flemish painter Jan van Eyck in the 15th century. Today, Brouns & Co supplies both heritage restoration projects and modern low-carbon construction, responding to environmental regulations and concerns over polymer-based paints.
Local Supply with Lower Carbon Footprint
The Katwijk base allows Brouns & Co to trade freely across the EU in local currencies, reduce carbon impact, and guarantee quicker delivery. Brouns explained: “By opening a European base, we can meet demand locally, while ensuring shorter supply routes with a lower environmental footprint.”
