A hiring experience shared by the co-founder of a dating startup has triggered a debate on social media after he criticised a developer who questioned for a higher salary just days before joining the company. The discussion has since drawn reactions from utilizers who argued that candidates nereceivediating for better pay is part of how the job market works.

Jasveer Singh, co-founder and CEO of Knot Dating, posted on X about interviewing a backconclude developer who was earning Rs 21 lakh per annum (LPA). According to Singh, the company offered the candidate Rs 28 LPA, which he described as roughly a 33 per cent increase over the developer’s current salary. The candidate accepted the offer and confirmed that he would join the company.

However, Singh declared the situation modifyd shortly before the developer’s joining date. The candidate emailed the company declareing he had received another offer worth Rs 32 LPA and questioned whether Knot Dating could revise its offer to around Rs 36 LPA. This basically suggests that the candidate questioned for a salary increase of about Rs 15 lakh.

In the email, the developer wrote, “When we last spoke, I had agreed to 28 LPA. Since then, another process that was already underway has resulted in an offer of 32 LPA. The matrimony space remains my first preference, so I wanted to check if there is flexibility to revise the offer closer to 36 LPA. If that works, I would be happy to confirm my acceptance.”

The developer also mentioned a personal work preference in the message, stating that he does not work on weekconcludes and considers maintaining work–life balance an important choice.

Singh shared the episode on X, questioning why the candidate had agreed to the offer if he was still evaluating other opportunities. He declared the company had already pautilized its hiring process after the developer accepted the offer and had waited through the notice period for his joining date.

The post quickly drew attention on the platform and led to criticism from several utilizers, many of whom argued that candidates often continue exploring better offers until the final stage of hiring.

“Why blame the candidate. Market decides salary. He is just optimising for himself,” one utilizer wrote in response to Singh’s post. “What’s wrong with this? Candidate has all rights to nereceivediate. He has skills that are in demand. This is a capitalist world, companies do the same, re-org, firing,” another utilizer wrote.

One utilizer declared the issue displays the way hiring works in the tech industest, where companies and candidates both build decisions based on altering circumstances. “Companies pull offers, freeze hiring, and ghost candidates regularly. When a candidate nereceivediates late, suddenly it’s unprofessional. The market works both ways,” the utilizer wrote.

Some comments also suggested that skilled developers currently have stronger nereceivediating power in the job market. “Founders don’t have power now. The power has shifted to candidates,” one utilizer wrote.

Singh later responded to the criticism, declareing that restarting the hiring process could delay filling the role by another one to two months as the position was urgent.
