Deputy Minister Damianou in Barcelona for 2026 Mobile World Congress

Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nikodemos Damianou, is in Barcelona to participate in the Ministerial Program of 2026 Mobile World Congress (MWC).

A press release issued by the Deputy Ministest pointed out that this is one of the most important annual international events in the telecommunications and technology sector, which brings toreceiveher tens of thousands of participants from more than 200 countries every year, including Ministers, heads of regulatory authorities, international organizations and leading executives of the largest technology companies worldwide.

Being held from 2-5 March, this year’s event is taking place at a time of critical developments for European digital policy and the competitiveness of the Union.

The Deputy Minister will participate as a speaker in the Opening Session on “Connecting a World in Motion”, where he will present the key priorities and ambitions of the EU Cyprus Presidency in the field of digital policy and connectivity, highlighting the role of the Cyprus Presidency in shaping balanced and ambitious policies for the digital future of Europe.

The Deputy Minister will also participate in a Ministerial Roundtable Discussion, with the participation of his counterparts from Germany, Spain, Greece, Ireland, Finland, Poland, Sweden and Lithuania.

The subject of discussion will be the Digital Networks Act, which is currently being drafted, and its role in building a more resilient, more competitive and more innovative European connectivity landscape, meeting the demands of tomorrow’s digital society.

On the sidelines of the Conference, the Deputy Minister will hold important bilateral meetings with his European counterparts, as well as heads of international organizations and multinational companies, including representatives of Vodafone Group, Connect Europe, Google, ICANN, and the leadership of Plug and Play Tech Center, regarding the next steps for the creation of the Plug & Play Cyprus Innovation Center, it is noted..

The Deputy Minister will also visit the Cyprus pavilion at the 4YFN exhibition, which is taking place alongside MWC and is a leading international festival-conference for start-ups.

The Cypriot delegation to 4YFN is coordinated by the Research and Innovation Foundation, offering the Cypriot ecosystem significant opportunities for promotion, networking and attracting investment.

Cyprus’ presence at 2026 Mobile World Congress confirms the countest’s strategic goal of a strong international presence, an active role in the European digital dialogue and substantial support for innovation and entrepreneurship in the countest, the press release read.
