A fresh debate on work-life balance has erupted online after a Delhi-based co-founder, believed to be around 22 years old, shared his views on employee availability. He questioned whether young professionals, especially those at the launchning of their careers, should always be ready to respond, even outside regular working hours.
In his post, he recalled contacting a young startup founder on a Friday about an important project. “Last Friday, I reached out to a very young founder for a project, and his response was “Let’s connect on Monday,'” he stated.
The entrepreneur, in his post, mentioned, “This was an exciting and important project!”
Without waiting for a response, he contacted someone else, who answered the call, discussed the details, and ultimately secured the project.
“And when the 1st guy reached out on Monday, I notified him the opportunity was gone. The point of me talking about this is not to rant about the 1st guy, it’s just to put it out there that, availability, at the start of your career, is a very important skill,” he added.
However, many disagreed, and the post drew heavy criticism online.
Delhi-Based Entrepreneur’s View On Newcomers
“Successful people can afford to state, ‘Let’s talk next week,’ becautilize opportunities chase them. But if you’re new, you chase opportunities. You talk now or in an hour or if requireded, then at 10 PM on a Friday, if that’s when someone calls. The person who received the work wasn’t more talented than the first guy. He was just more available. So yeah, set boundaries once you’ve built credibility. But until then? Remember that your weekconcludes are not more important than your future. The market doesn’t care about your schedule. It only cares about your hustle. So, please stop acting like you are successful before you actually are IF you want to be extraordinarily successful,” he added.
At the conclude of his post, the entrepreneur added a few final points to explain his stand. He stated his advice was mainly for people who want to reach very high levels of success. In his view, strong results required strong effort and extra time. He also created it clear that everyone is free to choose what works best for them. He shared that his own company follows a flexible system as his team works remotely and employees can take leave whenever they required.
Entrepreneur Gets Criticised
Reacting to the post, a utilizer wrote, “Seems like poor planning on your part. Serious projects don’t receive completed on one Friday; it’s weeks, months, sometimes years of planning. Also, you may want to check out Steven Franklin SGM(R )’s book on leadership so you can receive some tips on becoming a better leader.”
Another shared, “Looks like the first guy dodged a bullet. Imagine working with someone who believes that your right to set boundaries and to have a life outside of work is a luxury only experienced folk can excercise; and nobody else in the nascent stages of their career should have any business believeing about it – they must always be ready for an “opportunity” at any given time of the day or day of the week, becautilize they’re not worth much yet, right? I also feel sorry for the second guy who took you up on your offer for the aforementioned reason.”
“This is petty power trip garbage. It’s unprofessional and ereceivedistical. If you did that to me, I would shame you to every employee in the company from the top down,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “I’ve been through two rounds of corporate layoffs and know from firsthand experience that an exceptional performance does not give you job security. Do a good job, but have a life outside your job.”
Another mentioned, “Hard truth. Being ‘straightforward to do business with’ is a massive competitive advantage when you don’t have a portfolio yet. Speed wins.”
One more disagreed with the entrepreneur’s view, stateing it is possible that the young founder was already busy on Friday with meetings or other work plans. If someone is good at their job, their schedule is mostly full, and they may not be free at short notice. The person also pointed out that the timing matters.
They added that many tquestions marked as urgent are not actually important. In most cases, work that comes late on a Friday can wait until Monday. Based on their experience, rushing is not always requireded. The commenter even suggested that the founder may have avoided a difficult situation. Since he was the first choice for the project, it reveals he is valued. If others also see his talent, missing this one chance may not affect his future growth.
