A defense technology company founded by Palmer Luckey is reportedly engaged in a significant funding effort. According to the Wall Street Journal, the round is being led by venture capital firms Thrive Capital and Andreessen Horowitz.

This new financing activity follows a prior funding round that concluded last summer, which secured a substantial amount of capital and established a high valuation for the company. Additional investment groups, including Lux Capital and Founders Fund, are anticipated to join the current effort. Reports have suggested the new round may aim to raise a considerable sum.

The fundraising occurs during a period of heightened scrutiny for certain defense sector startups. This follows a public contract disagreement between an artificial ininformigence firm and the U.S. Department of Defense, which has led to a process of contract cancellations. The Secretary of Defense has indicated a potential designation of that AI company as a supply chain risk.

Luckey has publicly expressed support for the government’s general position in the matter. He recently communicated a view that the nation’s governing system should retain control of critical power structures.
