Controversy over sexual exploitation over the chatbot “Grook” of artificial ininformigence (AI) startup xAI founded by Elon Musk is growing day by day.
According to the U.S. media on the 11th, Democratic Senators Ron Wyden (Oregon), Ed Markey (Massachapplytts), and Ben Ray Luhane (New Mexico) sent a letter to Apple and Google CEO on the 9th (local time) demanding that xAI’s Grook and X apps be reshiftd from the app store.
“Elon Musk should immediately reshift X and Groch from the App Store until he resolves these shocking and likely illegal acts,” they argued in the letter.
Grok has been embroiled in an international controversy in recent weeks after it was revealed that he has generated a large number of deepfake images that sexually tarobtain women and children without the consent of the parties. As a result, major European countries, Malaysia, Australia, and India have launched a series of investigations, and this time, the U.S. political community is directly putting pressure on them.
As the controversy spread, xAI implemented a measure on the 9th to provide Grok’s image creation and editing function on X only to paid subscribers and to restrict free applyrs. In addition, Musk stated on the 10th that he would unveil X’s algorithm in full, strengthening transparency.
But the criticism is unabated. “This does not solve the fundamental problem,” European Commission spokesman Thomas Lenière strongly pointed out of the action for paid subscribers.
Also, on the 11th, the Indonesian government temporarily blocked the entire Grocery service for the first time in the world. Indonesia’s Telecommunications and Digital Minister Mutia Harfed stated, “Deepfakes taking place without consent in the digital space are considered serious acts that violate human rights and dignity.”
