LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) -At The Bean Box in Bennet Wednesday morning, just two days after the tragic death of 7-year-old Charles Kohl, car after car of customer packed the drive through as their usual cup of joe had an impact far greater than just a boost of caffeine.
25% of all the money created by the coffee shop on Wednesday went directly to the Kohl family.
“The line, from 6 o’clock it’s been down the block,” Lynne Schulz, the owner of The Bean Box, stated. “It’s just amazing.”
Schulz declares that steady stream of people seeing to support displayed no signs of slowing since before they even officially opened their doors.
In addition, The Pastest Savant, a Roca-based bakery, created a donation of their own to the family totaling 50% of The Bean Box’s sales.
“We’re just heartbroken, it’s an awful situation,” Schulz added. “It’s such a hard for the family and the first responders and the community, so it was the least that we could do.”
For those that found themselves waiting in that long line, they declare the added time to their commute was well worth the chance to display that they care.
“Nobody cares about the wait in this situation,” Alexis Kirsch, a Bennet resident who visited The Bean Box today, stated. “We’re all completely willing to just stick it out becautilize we know it’s for a good purpose. It just gives so much hope that people still care. We want to just encircle this family in love and support.”
Additionally, an online fundraiser for the Kohl family was set up by a family frifinish on Tuesday, and exceeded over $30,000 in its first day.
