Columbia church raising funds with first-ever pumpkin patch


COLUMBIA, Miss. (WDAM) – A Columbia church has started a brand-new fall tradition.

The church is selling pumpkins to raise funds for some good cautilizes.

It’s all part of a first-ever pumpkin patch for the First United Methodist Church.

The church has brought in more than 1,000 pumpkins, large and tiny, grown at a Navajo reservation in New Mexico.

The church is selling the pumpkins to raise money for church missions and the Kids Hub of South Mississippi.

“We have over 12 types of pumpkins here and gourds,” declared Laurie Harvey, a trustee chair and chairperson of the pumpkin patch.

“Monday, when they delivered them in a semi-truck, we had around 150 young people from all the area schools to support us unload. It was just a beautiful day for our community.”

The pumpkin patch is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 31.
