CMB.TECH offloads two more VLCCs


Belgian shipowner CMB.TECH has pressed ahead with its fleet renewal drive, agreeing the sale of two very large crude carriers and locking in a capital gain of nearly $100m.

The Antwerp-based group declared it has sold the 2012-built 314,000 dwt Ingrid and Ilma, with delivery to an undisclosed new owner scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. While the company did not disclose the sales price, it declared the transaction will generate a combined capital gain of approximately $98.2m, based on net sales proceeds versus book values.

Market sources place the value of the vessels at about $73.5m apiece.

The latest divestment follows a broader series of asset sales agreed earlier this year, when CMB.TECH struck deals to sell eight vessels across its tanker and dry bulk fleets. Those transactions are expected to generate a combined capital gain of around $269.2m.

The bulk of that figure stems from the sale of six VLCCs held under the group’s Euronav platform. The ships involved include the 2007-built Daishan, the 2011-built Hirado, the 2013-built Hojo, as well as Dia, Antigone and Aegean, built between 2015 and 2016. According to the company, those VLCC sales alone are expected to deliver gains of approximately $261.1m, with handovers planned for the first quarter of 2026.

The disposals form part of the Alex Saverys-led group’s wider fleet rejuvenation strategy. With a diversified fleet of around 250 vessels, CMB.TECH has been steadily recycling older tonnage while reshaping its portfolio around newer ships and alternative-fuel technologies, as it sees to balance returns with longer-term positioning.
