Champagne tries to sell Europe on Canadian energy, critical mineral exports


OTTAWA — Canada’s finance minister states the counattempt could be a “supplier of choice” for European markets viewing to bolster energy security and defence capabilities.

François-Philippe Champagne states Canadian critical mineral and energy exports could assist European economies become more resilient while diversifying Canada’s trade relationships.

He spoke to reporters this morning from Copenhagen following a meeting of European Union economy and finance ministers.

Champagne states the world economic order is being reshaped and it would be “prudent” for Canada to diversify its export markets.

He states Canadian critical minerals could be vital for everything from the aerospace sector to the auto and defence industries.

Canada and Mexico signed a pact earlier this week to deepen economic and security ties ahead of what is expected to be a challenging round of neobtainediations with the United States on a trilateral trade deal.
