Catalonia closed 2025 with 2,403 startups, a 5.2% increase over the previous year, marking the highest number in its historical series, according to the report ‘Analysis of the Startup Ecosystem in Catalonia 2026′ prepared by ACCIÓ and presented by Minister Miquel Sàmper. Over the last decade, the number of emerging companies has more than doubled (+121%), with nearly half created in the past five years, highlighting the dynamism of Catalonia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Catalan startups generate around €3 billion in revenue, a 26% increase over 2024, and employ over 30,500 people (+34%). In 2025, they raised €1.131 billion in investment through 203 funding rounds, with an average of €5.6 million per round, a record high.
The report also emphasizes the international and technological nature of the ecosystem: 61% of startups export their products and services, over half work with Indusattempt 4.0 technologies, and 374 are deep tech, developing solutions based on advanced science and engineering.
Barcelona continues to position itself as one of the leading startup hubs in Southern Europe and the fifth city in the EU for launching new ventures, underscoring Catalonia’s role as an international innovation and entrepreneurship reference.
