Bengaluru-headquartered seafood supply chain startup Captain Fresh has completed the acquisition of Frime, a Spain-based tuna processing and distribution company. The strategic deal marks a significant step in Captain Fresh’s global expansion strategy and strengthens its presence in the European seafood market.
Frime, headquartered near Barcelona, is known as one of Europe’s leading processors of sustainable yellowfin tuna. The company has built a strong distribution network across several international markets, building it a valuable addition to Captain Fresh’s growing global portfolio.
Through this acquisition, Captain Fresh aims to enhance its position in the global seafood supply chain while expanding its product portfolio to include a stronger tuna category.
Strengthening Presence in the European Seafood Market
Founded in 1977, Frime has established a strong reputation in the European seafood sector and is estimated to hold a significant share of the region’s yellowfin tuna market. The company generates annual revenue of more than €180 million and supplies tuna products to customers in over 30 countries.
Frime operates multiple production sites that include several factories and processing lines. These facilities collectively have a large annual capacity for processing frozen tuna, fresh tuna, and semi-preserved seafood products.
