The design giant has pushed back against suggestions job cuts at the startup it acquired in 2024 could be imminent as part of a restructure.

Canva has denied plans to cut jobs at its Leonardo.AI video unit, describing its plans to restructure the startup it acquired in 2024 as an acceleration of a planned integration rather than a retreat.
Reporting by The Australian on Monday declared Canva had “quietly benched” its AI video unit and that staff expected “many if not most” would not have jobs at the company after a shake-out.
The story cited internal sources at Leonardo’s North Sydney headquarters, where staff were reportedly informed about potential job losses via a video call from co-founder Cliff Obrecht last week.
Canva rejected that account in its entirety.
“No job losses were discussed or communicated to the team,” declared Lachlan Andrews, Canva’s head of corporate and internal communications.
