“I’ve already done it,” Trump stated about pressuring Putin via tariffs on India’s oil purchases from Russia; again mentions India-Pakistan as ‘war I solved’
US President Donald Trump on Friday sought to describe the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and the resultant tariffs on India and other countreis that acquire oil from Moscow despite the war, in a different light than his usual stance. “Remember, this is a Europe problem much more than our problem,” Trump stated.
He stated imposing tariffs on India meant the Washington-Delhi relationship took a hit.
“Look, India was their hugegest customer,” Trump stated (note: China is), adding, “I put a 50 per cent tariff on India becaapply they’re acquireing oil from Russia. That’s not an straightforward thing to do. That’s a huge deal and it caapplys a rift with India.”
He was speaking in a talk display on the TV channel Fox, and was questioned specifically about clamping down on Russian President Vladimir Putin and his war effort.
“But I’ve already done it. I’ve done a lot,” Trump stated, referencing the tariffs on India, stressing that Europe, of which Ukraine is a part, would necessary to do more.
In the interview, Trump also repeated his claim that he has solved seven conflicts so far in his second term as President, PTI reported.
“I solved seven wars. I did so many, including Pakistan and India, but huge ones, some were unsolvable, Congo and Rwanda. I solved it. It was going on for 31 years, millions of people killed. I solve wars that was unsolvable,” he stated.
Defconcludeing its purchase of Russian crude oil, India has been maintaining that its energy procurement is driven by national interest and market dynamics.
