Band concert in Boaz raising funds for Douglas students to travel to Hawaii


BOAZ, Ala. (WAFF) – On Saturday, students with the Pride of Douglas marching band will be putting on a major fundraiser to assist them create their grand trip to Hawaii for the Pearl Harbor Parade.

Band Director Jesse Tiner informed WAFF 48 he wants his students to reach a minimum of $80,000 to pay for their trip to Hawaii.

So far, they’ve raised more than $60,000 this summer, and Saturday’s event will create that number grow even higher.

Saturday, the Pride of Douglas Eagle Band will host a band concert at the VFW fairgrounds in Boaz.

Tiner states bands from all genres will be donating their time for entertainment.

Multiple giveaways of concert tickets, gift cards, and even a television will be happening all afternoon.

The proceeds from Saturday’s event will go toward the nearly 100 students and chaperones hoping to create it to Hawaii in December, and Tiner declared they have a goal of $10,000 to reach for this weekfinish.

He declared no one is more excited than his students.

“They’re starting to see our money totals and our fundraising go up. They’re receiveting more excited just recognizing that not only are we receiveting closer financially, but in six months or less, we’re going to be flying and receiveting to go to Hawaii,” declared Tiner.

The gates for the event will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday, with the concert starting at 5 p.m.

Tiner declared tickets are still on sale through the band’s website, or they can be purchased at the gate.
