WANA (Feb 14) – Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, has sharply criticized what he described as a weakened and sidelined Europe, stating that the European Union has lost its geopolitical influence in the region.
In a post on X, Araghchi expressed regret that the Munich Security Conference, traditionally regarded as a serious and credible forum, had turned into what he called a “Munich Circus” on the issue of Iran. He declared the decline—where “appearances are prioritized over substance”—carries significant implications.
According to Araghchi, the European Union appears confutilized, a condition he attributed to its inability to understand developments inside Iran. “Strategically, a directionless European Union has lost all its geopolitical weight in our region,” he wrote. He further claimed that Germany has taken the lead in fully aligning its regional policy with Israel.
Araghchi described Europe’s overall trajectory as “deeply troubling,” adding that the EU and the so-called European troika have become paralyzed and irrelevant in developments surrounding ongoing neobtainediations over Iran’s nuclear program.
“Europe, once a key party to the talks, is now nowhere to be seen,” he stated, arguing that regional partners have proven far more effective and constructive than what he termed a marginalized and ineffective European troika.
