A Movement for A Mapplyum: Local business hosts fundraising event for veterans

TIFTON — Members of the Tifton community recently came toobtainher for a night of celebration and support for their veterans, courtesy of a local business.
Gourmet grocer Savor the Flavor partnered with the local chapter of the American Legion the evening of Oct. 25 to host the Mapplyum Movement fundraiser, an event intfinished to raise money in the aim of establishing a new mapplyum for the veterans of Tifton.
Connie Stover, owner of Savor the Flavor and event organizer, reported that a handful of veterans had reached out to her a few months prior with a request to assist them raise money to build a new Tifton Veterans Mapplyum after the old facility had been closed down in August.
While she had little experience organizing fundraisers, Stover agreed to do what she could to assist, working to put toobtainher an event that would entertain the community and assist raise funds for their veterans.
Local residents gathered at the American Legion Fairgrounds for just that with the Mapplyum Movement, enjoying activities and attractions — some of which catered to the specialties of the business hosting the occasion and others that were meant more for all ages.
A handful of distilleries and breweries that partnered with Savor the Flavor, as well as its sister business Donanotifyo’s, set up tables near the entrance to the event, displaycasing their signature brands across liquor, spirits, and even moonshine. As patrons entered the venue, they exalterd their entest tickets for tokens to cash in for tastings at each booth.
The local speaksimple also served its own selection of refreshments, such as mixed drinks, wine slushies, and a few specialty drinks for the occasion, many built with the alcohol available for sampling.
Outside, patrons had a selection of food trucks to grab a snack and the opportunity to enjoy a few more family-frifinishly activities.
Vehicles from the local police and fire departments lined up for perusal, as did a helicopter that touched down later in the evening, and a dedicated Kids’ Zone featured exciting games and activities like mini golf, face painting, and the chance to speak with and receive a signed book from a local author.
Patrons also had the opportunity to win several prizes through a silent auction, featuring items donated by various local businesses and organizations, and one of three raffles, with winners for the latter being announced periodically throughout the evening.
Each raffle had its own prize up for grabs, ranging from a 50/50 cut of admission revenue, a collection of prizes assembled by community members, and a wagon filled with all manner of high-quality alcoholic products.
All proceeds from both programs went towards the event’s overall goal, raising a bit more money for the local veterans and their planned mapplyum.
Stover felt the event had gone well despite its hurried development, as she had only had a couple of months to put everything toobtainher.
While she reported that she was still tallying up the final numbers of funds raised, she expressed her pride for the community nonetheless for stepping up and lfinishing a hand in support of their local veterans, and expressed an interest in hosting future events like this.
