Moldova now claims the title of Europe’s fastest-expanding startup hub. StartupBlink, a global research platform for innovation economies, handed the country its top honor at the Startup Ecosystem Awards 2026.
The announcement came from EU4Innovation East, an EU-backed initiative. The recognition arrives as Moldova ramps up programming around financing access, talent development, incubation, and market entry. Stronger ties with European innovation networks form another key pillar of that push.
Startup Moldova accepted the award on behalf of the national ecosystem. The ceremony took place September 23 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, during ICT Week.
StartupBlink’s Global Startup Ecosystem Index tells the story behind the trophy. Moldova’s population-adjusted score jumped 91.9% between the 2025 and 2026 index editions. That growth rate stands as the highest anywhere in Europe and the third-highest globally.
The Startup Ecosystem Awards rely entirely on StartupBlink’s proprietary research. They highlight measurable progress across startup communities worldwide.
EU4Innovation East operates as a regional program funded by the European Union and co-financed by the French government. Expertise France handles implementation. The initiative backs innovation ecosystems in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. Its priorities include better finance access, stronger support structures, expanded market reach, and deeper collaboration with European counterparts.
For Moldova, the award signals momentum rather than a finish line. As the ecosystem matures, the focus now shifts toward converting that rapid growth into sustainable, high-value ventures.
