Indian and European Union officials met Sunday in Brussels to address parliamentary cooperation, senior-level exchanges, and action items tied to their long-standing Strategic Partnership.
The talks reflect renewed momentum in the relationship, following a landmark summit earlier this year and a flurry of high-profile visits aimed at deepening trade and technology collaboration. Both sides have signaled intent to move beyond symbolic gestures toward concrete implementation.
Ambassador Pranay Verma, India’s envoy to Belgium and the EU, sat down with Pietro Ducci, Director-General for External Policies in the European Parliament. The Indian Embassy characterized the conversation as a productive exchange covering inter-parliamentary engagement and priority execution under the Strategic Partnership framework.
That partnership dates back to 2004, when the two sides formalized upgraded ties at the fifth India-EU Summit in The Hague. Shared commitments to democracy, rule of law, multilateralism, and a rules-based international order anchor the relationship.
Cooperation now spans trade, investment, technology, security, defense, connectivity, and global challenges. The Brussels meeting follows External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s July visit for the third India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting, where he pressed for stronger supply chain resilience and deeper research collaboration in clean energy.
Jaishankar also met European Council President Antonio Costa, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, and commissioners overseeing startups, research, and international partnerships. Those discussions touched on West Asia stability, maritime commerce safety, the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, and green shipping initiatives.
As implementation accelerates, the focus shifts to converting strategic alignment into measurable outcomes across trade, technology, and security domains.
